Madonna released her first LP in 1983 when most of countries in Eastern Europe were hidden under Iron Curtain. This difficult period of time brought delays for releasing of her records and large part of them (available in USA and Western Europe) even were not released in Poland in the 80's at all. Singles and LPs were imported (mostly) illegaly and only small part of them were released under licence of Sire Records and Warner Bros. by Muza - Polskie Nagrania.

True Blue album was released in Poland in 1987 under licence of Warner Bros. by Muza - Polskie Nagrania on cassette MC and vinyl LP (in 1988). It was the very first time when Madonna's album were released officially in Poland. Tapes were available as 3 different variants of color used for writings on tape; vinyl was also re-pressed many times and re-released with or without True Blue poster.

Madonna released her fourth studio album - Like A Prayer - in 1989 and soon after that it was released on tape [CK 976] and LP vinyl [SX 2835] in Poland by Muza - Polskie Nagrania. In 1990 I'm Breathless album was released as well on tape [CK 1040] and LP vinyl [SX 2902]. Both albums included full booklets and orginal layouts and were re-pressed many times.

The first Polish True Blue cassette was completely different than releases available worldwide. Booklet was removed and producers/writers credits were included only on a small insert. Also, three options of color on tape were available: grey/white, green and gold. See pictures below:

None of Madonna's singles has been ever released as 7", 12" or cassette in Poland except for 7" Spanish Eyes which was aired on the radio (Program Trzeci Polskiego Radia) in 1989. 7" promotional single with no cover and white labels was released only for radio DJs and was never officially on sale as commercial 7" single.

None of Madonna albums were released in Poland officially between 1990 and 1994. CDs were imported (legally this time, after political changes in Eastern Europe) but most of some available records (especially tapes) were pressed illegally by small companies (for example: Takt) which earned money in the fact that there was no Copyright Act in Poland (untill 1994). Some of them are presented below and can be found on eBay:

Everything changed in 1994. Polish record label - Polton (established in the early 80's) - released two last at that time Madonna's albums on tapes (The Immaculate Collection and Erotica) and the brand new album (then) - Bedtime Stories. All three had original booklets. Tapes were manufactured in Poland by Polton and all of them received new catalog numbers with prefix PCW-xxx. Probably it is also the only one chance to hear Erotica from tape with all 14 tracks, including Did You Do It?. Booklet does not mention that fact but tape plays full set of songs from dirty version of the album.

Polton was finally overtaken by Warner Music Poland in 1995 which was newly created at that time. Since then Polton was responsible for manufacturing and Warner Music Poland for distributing. All tapes from this period have both logos on booklets and (or) tapes.

REVIEW: Other Warner Music Releases

None of Madonna albums and singles were officially pressed on CD by Warner Music Poland!

There is only one CD (released as card sleeve) which was officially pressed by Takt and Warner Music Poland called Miłosne Przeboje which had been available a few weeks before American Life album was released. CD was not commerically available in music stores and could be found only as a additional gift with Przyjaciółka magazine. 4-track EP includes SecretErotica and Take A Bow in edited versions known from the singles and released lately on GHV2Crazy For You used on CD is taken from Something To Remember album from 1995.

In 2009 Madonna gave her first live show in Poland during Sticky & Sweet Tour which was sponsored by Allegro - local online marketplace. Allegro prepared for participants in their competitions a special edition of Hard Candy album in slipcase. CD which can be found inside is standard German pressing. This issue was never available commercially.

REVIEW: Universal Music Poland

One of the latest examples of Polish activity in Madonna discography are CDs from Universal Music Poland with Polish stickers info on regular German pressings of W.E. soundtrack and MDNA album (both, 1CD and 2CDs editions). W.E. sticker says: "Includes Golden Globe Award winning song of Madonna - Masterpiece" and sticker of the 1st release of MDNA album says: "Concert!!! 1.08.2012 National Stadium, Tickets: LiveNation.pl":

The very last Polish issues are regional editions of MDNA World Tour DVD (2013) and Rebel Heart 1CD standard edition (2015).

Both were pressed only for Polish market with special price information: "Zagraniczna Płyta - Polska Cena" ("Foreign Record - Polish Price" what means that prices of these issues are smaller than regular EU versions which were also available in Poland).

MDNA World Tour includes additional Parental Advisory - Explicit Content sticker printed on the front cover (EU pressing has "15" printed in the right corner) and Rebel Heart front cover is printed with additional white border (regional issue).
